Dr. Charles Patrick Doc Womack, age 88, Joplin, Mo., passed away on Friday, July 20, 2018, at his home.
Doc was born April 27, 1930 in Humboldt, one of 14 born to the late Ralph John Womack and Regina Ann Eckart Womack. He graduated from Humboldt High School, and then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He returned to Kansas, and went to school at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. He received his bachelors degree in engineering, and then became the first person to earn his doctorate degree at Kansas University in electrical engineering. He was a pioneer in the development of semi-conductors and computer motherboards. He also worked for over 40 years with Autotronics Inc., in Joplin, where he was currently employed. He was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church and Sigma Xi and Eta Kappa Nu Fraternities.
In addition to his parents, Doc was preceded in death by bothers, Rev. Warren Womack, Bernard Womack, Lawrence Womack, Jim Womack, Rev. Emil Womack, Paul Womack, and a sister, Josephine Ketzner.
Survivors include his children, Michael Womack of Joplin, John Womack of Kansas City, Kan., Jeanne Womack of Joplin, Mo., and Kristi Womack and wife Ang McManamon of Brooklyn, N.Y.; brothers, William Womack of Kansas City, Kan., Joseph Womack of Chicago, Ill.; sisters, Joan Cook of Ottawa, Phyllis Miller of Oklahoma City, Okla., Yvonne Bonnie Ohmes of Kansas City, Kan., and Bernadette Decky Cimino of Junction City; many very special grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, in Osborne Memorial Cemetery.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
